Wine & Nature

We usually recommend combining Porto with a 3 days trip to Douro, especially if you’re a wine lover. There are many beautiful wineries to discover and even better wines to taste. The Douro region is mainly known for its wines and green landscape. Please keep in mind that you’re quite north. While in other parts of the country you might want to avoid traveling there in summer, here you might love it as many tourists are most likely somewhere by the beach. However, last time we traveled there in late April and the weather was spectacular. Some wineries might close during winter. But northern Portugal is way more than the Douro region. We absolutely need to go hike in the National Park of Gerês one day and there are also many cities worth visiting as for example Castelo Branco.
