Mike and I are rather active travelers. We love to discover new places by foot and to combine it with some relaxing moments. Madeira invites you to deeply dive into nature and forget about the busy daily life. A hotel or place to stay is more than just a room to sleep for us. After a day hiking or exploring the island, we want to come to a sanctuary where we can find peace and enjoy calmness, preferably with the sound of the ocean nearby. At Saccharum we found exactly that soothing atmosphere.
With its impressive panoramic views overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, Saccharum is an invitation to take it slow. The Design and Spa Resort is located in western Madeira Island, in Calheta, just 25 minutes away from the capital, Funchal. Once, there used to be a sugarcane mill on the property. The interior design is by Nini Andrade Silva and RH+ Arquitetos who aimed to combine the sugar cane work tradition with a contemporary interior design.
