Savoy Palace

We ended our 10 days trip in Madeira with a very relaxing and quiet stay at the Savoy Palace. After many adventures on the island, we needed some time to simply do nothing and enjoy the warm sun rays before heading back to cold Switzerland. At Savoy Palace we found exactly what we were looking for.

Savoy Palace is a superior 5-star hotel located in Funchal, the capital of Madeira. It provides the ideal choice for guests seeking relaxation and luxury with a perfect blend of refinement, modern comfort and warm hospitality. Other than many big 5-star hotels, at Savoy Palace you are welcomed as an individual guest and your needs are always taking seriously. It offers the atmosphere of a boutique hotel and is guaranteed to satisfy everyone’s tastes.

The hotel is an homage to the island and its unique characteristics. It’s a rather different hotel than we are used to normally. Simplicity and straight lines are replaced by organic shapes. Savoy Palace is an invitation to the island’s natural beauty and enchants you with its floral and almost majestic architectural details. The interior project is by Nini Andrade de Silva and RH+ Arquitectos. The interior design is influenced by the Belle Époque and is reborn in total harmony with the cultural resources of the island, in a fascinating journey that combines history with contemporary influences.

The bridge’s details crossing the big pool area plays beautifully with the sun.

While in Madeira, I was dealing with some serious first trimester sickness and after putting myself together for some hiking trips and island exploration the days before, I just felt the need to stay put and enjoy being pampered. A huge thank you to the Savoy Palace team who helped me relaxe to the maximum. We stayed in a premium suite with the most amazing and soothing view over the Atlantic Ocean. Other than at Saccharum, at Savoy Palace you cannot upgrade your stay with a premium stay. The premium stay however comes with every premium room you book. Here’s an overview of all premium experiences. Interestingly, we met a couple who did exactly the same as we did: they traveled around the island and went on many nature adventures and for the end they saved some days to just relaxe and do nothing. For those of you who love to be active but also need some rest, a final stay at Savoy Palace is ideal.

Families with children are welcome: Family Apartment

As a premium guest you can enjoy your breakfast on your private terrace or in the Jacarandá Lounge & Club.

As in other Savoy Signature hotels, at Savay Palace as a premium guest you can benefit from various exclusive experiences. One of those is the private pool at the top terrace of the hotel. By the way children are welcome if you are staying in a premium room. There is also an adults only infinity pool on the other side of the terrace next to the Galáxia Skybar.

Private area for premium guests: infinity pool and whirlpool overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.

Restaurant Pau de Lume

At the in house restaurant Pau de Lume you can enjoy an authentic Portuguese cuisine. Furthermore there is an all-day brunch on the menu. Outside guests are welcome! I had a classic, Bacalhau à Brás, and it was delicious. The service was very good and we loved the interior design and its atmosphere.

Laurea Spa

The Savoy Palace has an impressive spa inspired by the Laurissilva forest and by the old tunnels and lagoons. The Laurea Spa offers numerous spa treatments and rooms as well as sauna, Turkish bath, Jacuzzi, ice fountain, sensory showers, halotherapy room, relaxation room and much more. The area of the spa is with its 3’100 sq.m one of the biggest in Europe.

Thank you for having us and making our last days in Madeira so relaxing. See you soon!
