Hotel das Amoreiras

Let us introduce you to the exquisite Hotel das Amoreiras, where an enchanting blend of urban sophistication and rustic charm awaits. Nestled in the picturesque Praça das Amoreiras in Lisbon, this city hotel effortlessly captures the essence of a serene countryside retreat. Immerse yourself in the art of warm hospitality and dive into an unforgettable local experience within a setting that feels like a delightful country home.

Driven by his passion for the world of hospitality and interior decoration, Pedro made the courageous decision to turn his long-standing dream into reality. Despite their professional backgrounds in private banking (Pedro) and luxury marketing (Alicia, Pedro’s wifex), their hearts were drawn to a different path. Their unwavering love for this realm spoke louder, propelling them towards the fulfillment of their shared vision. Pedro has been fascinated by the hospitality world and everything about it from a young age - to a point where, when he started going to university, half of his allowance was spent on the breakfast served at this old hotel nearby. The irresistible charm that blossomed over the years was nurtured through countless travels and living experiences abroad, alongside Pedro's parents initially and later with Alicia and their three children. Their journeys across England, Switzerland, and Spain left an indelible imprint, profoundly shaping Pedro's approach to this project and encapsulating a fusion of diverse philosophies.

It was when he realised the neglected buildings, where Hotel das Amoreiras proudly sits today, were for sale that Pedro decided to go for it. After buying the first building in 2016, he successfully purchased the adjacent building the following year. And then the work of a lifetime began for this couple who, until then, hadn’t had any contact with the hotel business whatsoever, except for their vast curiosity, which would make them stay at different hotels whenever they travelled.

I used to come here when I was a kid and think this square was absolutely magical; the genuine feeling of being in the countryside, but in the heart of the city. I can’t really explain it. It’s wonderful to have a coffee in the morning at the kiosk and see the neighbourhood locals, children in the playground, all of it. I’m definitely biased, but this is probably one of the most beautiful Lisbon squares
— Pedro Oliveira, Founder

Given its exceptional location, it was only natural for Pedro and Alicia to open the doors of the hotel to the outside world, welcoming not only guests but also those passing by. Whether one desires a refreshing cocktail amidst the inviting courtyard or craves a truly remarkable breakfast experience infused with local ingredients, the hotel offers an enticing opportunity for everyone to indulge and savor the delights it has to offer.

Pedro Oliveira is the mastermind behind every aspect of this project, pouring his heart and soul into it. From the architectural design to the exquisite decoration, Pedro embraced the challenge wholeheartedly, ensuring that the hotel truly reflects his influences and inspirations. With meticulous attention to detail, he personally crafted many of the furniture pieces and lighting fixtures, meticulously planning every inch of the space, from the strategic placement of outlets to the alluring patina of brass ornaments.

The selection of paintings and artworks holds a pivotal role in this project. Personally curated by Pedro, some of them sourced from his own personal collection, the hotel showcases several captivating paintings and original screen prints by acclaimed Swiss artists Maurice Barraud and Alberto Giacometti, as well as the works of Spanish artist Manolo Valdés. Notably, the bar proudly displays an original poster from a James Bond film, paying homage to one of Pedro's significant influences. However, perhaps the most treasured piece is a painting by Pedro's father, which has accompanied him throughout many homes and countries, now finding its rightful place in the hotel's entrance hall—a distinctive symbol welcoming all guests.

Interior Design

Pedro went with a sober palette of green, sand, and beige hues for the rooms, as well as superior materials, including Portuguese marble for the bathrooms. The upper hallways between the rooms are immersed in lower, discreet lighting with wicker walls and brass wall lamps designed by Pedro. We can also find Tolomeo table lamps by Artemide and lights by Michelle Bönan for Estro delicately affixed on the walls inside each room. On each end of the hallways, there are historical icons of politics, art and cinema — works of art that appear as key symbols in Pedro’s life and the years he lived outside of Portugal.

The ground floor shows us a mishmash of styles and eras that evoke comfort and carry us to a matchless scenario, as if it were a movie. From the Watts of Westminster fabrics to the astonishing mirrored bar, one can only travel without leaving the hotel. Every single nook of the Hotel das Amoreiras oozes magnificence and elegance, where nothing was left to chance. Renowned names from the universe of interior design and fashion, such as John Fowler, David Hicks, and Ralph Lauren, immediately stand out, references that have been with Pedro since forever.
