The Algarve is mostly known for its beautiful coast on the west side. But to be honest, I prefer the east coast, it's calmer and authentic. In the past few years the region invested a lot in Eco-Design Hotels. Companhia das Culturas is one of those beautiful and nature preserving places. It is a sustainable and organic agrotourism: 40 hectares of stone pines, cork oaks and carob trees, apricots and figs, olive oil and a vegetable garden. The historical village of Castro Marim is just 4 km away. Combine your visit with a relaxing trip to the beach Praia Verde. Only 6 km aways you'll be at the Nature Reserve of Ria Formosa. As my parents own an apartment at Cabanas, Tavira, I love to enjoy the Ria Formosa there. Specially in the evening, you should take a walk alongside the river while enjoying a gelato (the sunset is a killer).
