Castro

There is no Lisboa without pastel de nata. I guess, it’s the most famous delicacy from Portugal and often I get asked where to get the best one. So far, there are only two places I recommend. One of those places is Castro with their Atelier de Pastéis de Nata. They opened their first Atelier in Porto and since December 2021 they also have been making Lisboans and visitors of the city happier with their delicious pastel de nata. The ambition is to have the best pastel de nata, made with the best products, in an elegant space that has tried to keep the memory of the past.

At that same spot, there used to be the famous store of Casa Pereira selling an array of merchandise – including tea, coffee, biscuits and wine. It was one of a kind. Today, the windows of Rua Garrett 38 welcome you with an exclusive piece of Art by Joana Astolfi (more about the studio here): on one side a girl dipped into a large pastel de nata (who wouldn’t want to?) and on the other, the legs coming out of a pastel de nata.

The beautiful and modern store invites you to sit down and enjoy a break from sight seeing while observing the masters at work through a golden glas window. And on the way out don’t forget to buy some pastéis de nata to go for your loved ones!
