Café Villa Castellane

There are places that come as a surprise. Café Villa Castellane is one of those places. The villa is situated in the city center of Neuchâtel, a Swiss city by the lake of Neuchâtel. A city that brings us back to Provence (France) where we love to spend some days in spring. Now imaging combining the southern French flair with a symbiosis of Swiss and Portuguese Design. Et voilà, welcome to Café Villa Castellane!

I came across this beautiful place while looking for a new brunch spot. The Villa Castellane used to have many lives, one of those was the one of a private bank. The founders Ricardo Da Silva et Julie Arrais did an amazing job (with no architect) in renovating the place. I felt like somewhere in Porto. Many details as the money counter with its stunning green stone were kept and its elegance was underlined with fine wood materials and design pieces by the Swiss design studio Atelier Oï.

I knew that the founders had Portuguese roots, but I did not expect to find a bit of «my» Portugal in Neuchâtel. The brunch, served on Saturdays only, was delicious and offered a variety of sweet and salty treats. And if you’re missing the unique Pastel de Nata and Bolas de Berlim (you know them if you’re used to spend summers in Algarve), you must brunch at Café Villa Castellane. They also have serve some of our favorite Portuguese wines as for example from Malhadinha Nova with their Italian aperitivo.

Julie and Ricardo also invite you to musical evenings (for example Jazz and Fado) and know how to create a relaxing atmosphere. We will for sure come back for brunch but next time on a warmer day on the beautiful sunny terrace.
