Morgado do Quintão

Morgado do Quintão

It's not easy to try new restaurants in Algarve when the best cooks are in your family. This time, it was important for us to spend some time with my family and therefore, we did not have that much spare time to try out new restaurants. However, we managed to book a table at Morgado do Quintão. The estate itself is on our wishlist for a stay one day.

The Algarve is not known for its wines and will probably never be able to compete with the Alentejo and Douro region. Morgado do Quintão wants to change the poor wine image of the Algarve and therefore they’re mostly known for their wines and farm stay. We combined a delicious lunch under a beautiful olive tree with a wine tasting.

Morgado do Quintão

Morgado do Quintão remains in the family since the beginning of 1810. Today, the fourth generation shares a passion for the land, wine and food. They aim to preserve the local heritage and beauty. In 2017 the fourth generation inherited the estate from Teresa Pereira Caldas de Vasconcellos (1941-2017). She always wanted to do high quality wines but as a woman, back then, it was a quite impossible thing. So, the new owners decided to go after that dream of hers and even named their first wine after her.

We loved spending some hours at the estate. We learned about its history while enjoying the wine and food at their farmer’s table. And we sure loved the setting under the olive tree. The food consists of light Portuguese delicacies. My absolute favorite where the “Pataniscas de Bacalhau” (can I please have the recipe?). Our favorite wine was the white Branco’ 20.

So, next time you’re around Lagoa, don’t miss this experience at Morgado do Quintão. We surely want to come back in winter and experience the farm stay too.
